Le stade de Wimbledon

A young woman (Jeanne Balibar) travels to Trieste by train at different times of the year looking for traces of a deceased writer, hoping to find out why he never actually published a book of his own. She wanders the city, rummages through book stores old and new, goes to coffee houses, and meets different people he knew. She loses sight of her goal somewhat along the way, but by the time her investigations have led her to London, she’s written a text herself. In his adaptation of the novel of the same name by Daniele Del Giudice, Amalric relies on coincidence as an element of the creative process, on Jeanne Balibar as an actress and narrator in voiceover as well as on the melancholy mood and captivating light in the city on the Adriatic coast.
